26/03 2021 - She’s a Sailor  markerer ny single i samarbejde med Who Killed Bambi

Fredag den 23. april 2021 udkommer She’s a Sailor med singlen “Broken Heart” taget fra bandets debutalbum “Do You Want Us to Play?”.

Anmelderrost debutalbum

She’s a Sailor udgiver “Broken Heart” efter at have høstet stor ros og anerkendelse for den velskrevne og velproducerede debutplade, “Do You Want Us to Play?”, der udkom i november sidste år.

28/10 2020 – Nyt album fra She's a Sailor: "Do You Want Us to Play?"

Den 13. november udsender den danske duo She's a Sailor deres første longplay-udgivelse, "Do You Want Us to Play?". Forud for albummet frigiver bandet den 30. oktober singleforløberen "For You".

Ambitionen var klar, da Jesper Vindberg og Thomas Albrechtsen, der står bag She's a Sailor, i januar 2018 startede arbejdet på albummet "Do You Want Us to Play?".

Men bandets mere alvorlig side viser sig, foruden i "For You" og "Panic Attack", i den melankolske åbnings- og titelsang "Do You Want Us to Play?". Undervejs bekender She's a Sailor også deres kærlighed til kammerpoppen, når den får fuld skrue med harpsichord og strygere på "Rain and Circus". Andre skæringer såsom den fabulerende "Fools Like Us" har nærmere et klassisk indie-præg. "Do You Want Us to Play?" lukker med balladen "My Miss Right".

Albummets titel "Do You Want Us to Play?" tør stille præcis det spørgsmål, som mange musikere gerne vil have svar på. For She's a Sailor er der fremgang at spore, men spørgsmålet vil altid være urokkeligt relevant, for i showbiz er intet nogensinde en selvfølge.

"Do You Want Us to Play?" – debut album from She's a Sailor

On 13 November, the Danish duo She's a Sailor releases their first full-length album titled "Do You Want Us to Play?". The album will be out on digital, vinyl, and cd. Prior to the album, She's a Sailor releases the single "For You" on 30 October.

The ambition was clear when Jesper Vindberg and Thomas Albrechtsen, the artists behind the name She's a Sailor, started out on making the album. After massive radio success with their single "Beautiful", the EP "Back from The Sky" and a busy concert schedule, it was now time to fulfil their dream of making a full-length album.

The featured album is a follow-up on the success from the hit single "Beautiful" and has been created in collaboration with the award-winning guitarist and producer Lars Skjærbæk (Tim Christensen, Carl-Emil Petersen, Søren Huss, Claus Hempler, Michael Falch) and the Grammy award-winning Swede Michael Ilbert (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Cardigans, Roxette), who is behind the mix on several of the tracks on the album.

With "Do You Want Us to Play?" the band fulfills their musical and artistic ambitions of an album that encompasses both pop, melancholy, quirkiness, and seriousness. But making the album was not without obstacles.

Panic disorder delayed the album

About halfway through the process, lead singer Jesper Vindberg had to acknowledge that he was face to face with a psychological collapse from panic disorder. The band was forced to put all activities on hold, while he sought treatment.

- It was a dark period. When you barely have the courage to get out of bed, the thought of getting back on the stage and finishing an album is a long way to go. But medical treatment and psychological help started a slow turn for the better. In addition, it resulted in two songs that thematically and musically has left a mark on the album, Jesper Vindberg says.

He is referring to "For You" and the ballad "Panic Attack", that both are thematically centered around anxiety. With its deep bass tones, "For You" is a melancholy song to anxiety, and text-wise as well as musically it describes the iron grip in which Jesper has been held by the illness.

"Panic Attack" revolves around the same theme, but in a lighter musical framework, and with its slower tempo, guitar, and piano lines, it reflects the emotional state that the panic disorder brings about.

- Along with our release, we have decided to highlight these songs to draw attention to the taboo associated with mental disorders in men. I waited too long and tried to fight the anxiety by myself and that didn't go well. A lot of things would have been better if I just had the nerve to talk openly about it sooner. I was too afraid of what people would think of me, Jesper Vindberg explains.

She's a Sailor picked up touring again in January 2019 as supporting act for BAAL on their anniversary tour in Denmark. After that, the band continued their work on the album which was finished in the spring of 2020.

Pop and melancholy

Though "Do You Want Us to Play?" overall has a melancholy vibe and touches down on some serious matters such as longing, hope, and identity, the album contains plenty of harmonious pop pieces not far from the style on "Beautiful", e.g. the tracks "All I Wanna Do Is Dance", "Broken Heart" and "I Miss You So".

But, in addition to "For You" and "Panic Attack", a more serious and pensive side of the band is evident in the gloomy opening and title song "Do You Want Us to Play?". En route, She's a Sailor also confesses their love of Chamber Pop and the ample addition of harpsichord and strings on tracks such as "Rain and Circus". Other cuts such as the dreamy "Fools Like Us" has more of a classic indie touch. The album concludes with the personal ballad "My Miss Right".

- That song is special. It's our encore on stage and we always play it as a duo, because it encapsulates our starting point as a band: Two friends who love to play music and sing songs together, Thomas Albrechtsen ends.

The single "Some Space for Me", released Summer 2020, has had frequent airplay on DR P4 and is at present in A-listed rotation on DR P5, which is promising for the rest of the album's tracks.

The title of the album – "Do You Want Us to Play?" – dares to ask the question many artists want to know the answer to. She's a Sailor is clearly making headway, but the question is relentlessly relevant, as in showbiz nothing is ever given.
